“BAD WISH” is a concept album with seven distinct features:
- The album title forms an acronym using the initials of the track titles.
- The album consists of a total of seven tracks, aligning with it being my seventh album.
- The time signatures of each track correspond to their respective track numbers.
- The track durations have been rounded to the nearest ten seconds.
- The lyrics narrate the downward spiral of unrequited love.
- All songs are dedicated to one particular person who held significance in my life at that time. It began as a simple gesture to win her heart, yet tragically, it ended up shattering my own.
- As a result, this became her final album.
For the first time, I understood that when producing music, less actually is more. This meant that I reduced the number of audio tracks per song to about 13, for the most part using only one guitar and one synth. Whereas my previous albums almost exclusively contain electric guitars, I took the extra effort to record acoustic guitars. I also discarded song projects during late production because they didn’t feel right for the album, something I have never done before. In addition, I used a new microphone which produced a much crisper sound. While I’m not saying that the vocal performance or the mixing are perfect, I dare say that taking extra care paid out in the end.
Overall, the album’s lyrics explore complex emotions, interpersonal dynamics, and the intricacies of human relationships. In particular, the lyrical themes include:
- Trust and Deception: Trust being broken and the consequences of deception in a relationship. References to secrets, paranoia, and the fear of being betrayed.
- Dreams and Fantasies: Both positive and negative. Dreams turning into nightmares and the longing for idealized relationships or situations.
- Love and Anger: Conflicting and intense emotions as well as the struggle to control or understand them. The dynamics of power and control in relationships.
- Longing and Regret: A yearning for someone or something that is unattainable or lost. Missed opportunities and the desire for second chances.
- Self-Reflection and Self-Doubt: An introspective tone with me questioning my own actions, motivations, and choices. Themes of identity and self-discovery.
- Desire and Obsession: A fascination with someone, bordering on obsession. A willingness to go to extreme lengths to fulfill desires.
- Communication and Miscommunication: Frustration with the inability to express myself clearly or to understand the intentions of others.
- Faith and Worship: A devotion or reverence towards someone, bordering on idolization. A yearning for a deeper connection and a desire for validation.
